In 1848 Kōsa illustrated a picture book entitled Ehon Hayamanabi (i.e., Picture Book of Quick Lessons). The book’s thirty-eight pages of bird pictures and forty-five pages of flower pictures are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Kōsa drew the birds only semi-accurately which was typical of Japanese artists working in the mid-1800s. Flower shapes were drawn more accurately but their colors were not accurate.
